Counterpoint No. 1 brings together concentric circles, curved bands, rectangular forms, and repeated horizontal lines. A sweeping cream-colored arc moves through the vivid red field, connecting the rounded forms on one side with the more structured geometry on the other.
Glass beads follow the direction of each element, emphasizing the contrast between circular movement and linear repetition. Red, navy, black, cream, gold, and pale green divide the surface into distinct areas of color and visual weight, while subtle changes in texture and reflection emerge as light moves across the work.
As the first piece in the Counterpoint series, the composition examines how opposing forms can remain distinct while creating a unified visual rhythm. Balance is achieved not through symmetry, but through the active relationship between shape, direction, color, and space.
